Our two spacious hikers cabins at Merkenveld offer you a combination of camping experience in the forest, and the confort of an indoor stay. The perfect base to discover the vast nature reserve arounf Merkenveld, or to visit the charming city of Bruges!
The brand new hikers cabins offer space to 6 persons, with possibility for an additional accessible bed. The hikers cabins can perfectly be combined with another building or camp field. This way, they become a cosy private spot for the cooking team, teachers, accompanists, … while staying with a group at Merkenveld. Also, it is a great place to stay for small groups, such as a team of leaders of the (youth)movement, out scouting for a camp ground, or preparing for their summer camp. Families on a cycling- of hiking holiday in the surroundings are certainly welcome as well. A little too small for your group? On request, it is possible to place some little tents nearby.

Covered terrace
The two hikers cabins can perfectly be rented seperately, or be combined together, according tot the size of your group.
The hikers cabins are designed so you can prepare your own meals. If you hire the hikers cabins in combination with a larger group in the main building, you can clearly also opt for full board.
If you cook yourselves : a fully equipped kichten with cooking equipment and dinnerware is provided in accordance to your group size (and the baker delivers daily fresh bread, if ordered before 4pm the previous day).
Full board : we serve daily 4 fresh, delicious, childproof meals : breakfast, warm meal, tea time snack, bread meal.
The Fourage is a multifunctional dining hall for 160 persons, guaranteeing a smooth service during the meals. The menu is issued in advance, we pay special attention to vegetarians, alimentary allergies, and specific diets.

Hopper commits tot sustainability
Merkenveld received the Green Key-label. An international certificate, awarded by Toerisme Vlaanderen and Good Planet, as recognistion for our attention paid to a durable and sustainable policy in many aspects. In the beginning, we were mainly concerned with the economical and rational use of energy, but nowadays, we commit on more profound actions, such as the use of certain materials, local purchases, sensitization, etc.
Hopper commits to accessibility:
Merkenveld commits to accessibility for many years already. This way, we have the unit Spinder accessible for wheelchairs, with bedrooms on the ground floor, an elevator to the 1st floor (thanks to the charity campaign Roei-for-Life in 2019), accessible bathroom and toilets.
In 2017, we constructed an accessible path, which connects the parking to the building, ant to all outside accommodation such as the campfire circle, the pond, the chapel, the playgrounds, some camp fields, and the camping sanitary.
Toch kunnen we met deze acties niet alle groepen tegemoetkomen vermits wij een open gebouw zijn, waar de verschillende groepen buiten door elkaar kunnen lopen en ravotten. Voor de meeste groepen is dat net onze troef, voor andere groepen is dit onze drempel. In 2020 konden we een oude hoeve achteraan het bos verwerven, deze willen we verbouwen naar een kleine unit. Wat we vooral willen bereiken met deze unit is om er bijzondere zorg te kunnen aanbieden, zoals geborgenheid, omheind, toegankelijk en knus. Om dit te kunnen bereiken namen we deel aan de actie MoveForLife 2023.
