Hopper youth centres?

Hopper youth centres are the 8 youth centres of the Scouts and Guides Association of Flanders. Each youth centre has its own story, but all started from a local or national initiative of enthusiastic scouts and guides. We write a story here since 1934, with the purchase of the oldest youth centre De Kluis in Sint-Joris-Weert to the realisation of a real youth hostel in Antwerp in 1982.
Our mission is always simple, adventurous but solid opportunities to young people in residence group, and of course, scouts and guides in particular. And all this in a green environment.

Our background makes the functioning of our youth centres particular. Thanks to a successful cooperation between staff and volunteers there is a friendly and contemporary atmosphere! Who wants to cooperate, is always welcome.
All our youth centres are recognized by Tourism Flanders as a “Tourism for all-centre” and by the Agency for Social and cultural work, Youth Department.
We participate in the programme of the Green key, an international eco-label for environmentally friendly tourist companies in our country that is awarded by Tourism Flanders in collaboration with “Bond Beter Leefmilieu” (Organisation for better living environment). With achieving the Green key we got rewarded for our efforts: to proceed in a sustainable manner and so carefully deal with water, energy and waste.

Camps or forest classes?

Here you can find just the place for all activities you want to do in group, indoors or outdoors:
• Multi-day courses or trainings
• Camps, bivak
• Weekends with youth movement, sports club, chorus, orchestra, family group, ...
• Multi-day  school activities: forest classes, introductory days, days of reflection
• Teambuilding, meetings
• Daily activities in nature or in the city
The Brink, Drieboomkensberg, The Kluis, The Winner, Woutershof , Moerkensheide and Merkenveld are all in the middle of all natural areas. There is sufficient space available in the forests and nature to make your activity succeed.

You can find our youth hostel, Scoutel, in the heart of Antwerp as a base for a real urban adventure.

Large or small group?

Youth centres have their own language. This ' translation ' can help you to find the suitable building that fits your group: for large or small groups.
Main Building
• Each youth centre comprises a main building.
• This building also houses the reception and usually has the largest capacity. It is equipped with large dayrooms and smaller rooms to work in groups.
• Each main building is also equipped so that it also possible to be divided for different groups. You rent just what you need.
• In the main building the main kitchen is also located where staff or volunteers prepare meals.

Extra building

• Most youth centres also have one or more separate buildings on their domain.
• These outbuildings are fully equipped and can therefore be rented separately, but also in combination with the main building, outbuildings or the other campgrounds.
• Most of the outbuildings are simple and solid entities.
• You can choose from a log cabin without beds (Moerkensheide, Brink, The Winner, the Kluis), a small building with beds (Drieboomkensberg, Berkenhof on The Kluis) to a large equipped camphouse (on the Brink).

Campsite

Hopper is one of the few youth centres in Flanders where you can also camp.
• Large meadows or open spots in the forest, each with a place where plumbing is available for the campers
• Our campgrounds can also be rented separately or in combination with a building. Ideal for a mixed group in terms of age.
• And not to forget: campfire circle and lashing wood are available

Self cooking or rather not?

On all our Hopper youth centres there are different formulas possible.
• A stay in full board for groups who prefer not to cook themselves. What meals you want (from breakfast to supper) can be determined in consultation with the responsible on the spot.
• Self cooking is also possible. All buildings are sufficiently equipped to cook for groups. On simple request, bread and drinks delivered, so you don’t have to worry about these things yourself..
• A stay in the main building of the Brink, Drieboomkensberg and The Kluis is only possible in  full board. Some exceptions:

Groups of Scouts and Guides Association of Flanders can cook on Drieboomkensberg and The Kluis themselves. During the summer vacation  all groups can cook themselves at Drieboomkensberg.
• You can also use our accommodation or campsite for one day. For such a one day stay a meal at noon is possible to order.

Affordable?

The bill

For an exact calculation of your situation, you can contact the youth centre responsible directly!

• Our prices are per day, per person or per building. That is clearly stated in the price table for each youth centre.
• For a weekend you always pay the weekend price and you can use the accommodation from friday evening to sunday evening, regardless of when you arrive.
• All in
• Prices for a stay in the buildings include all costs under normal conditions of consumption.
• For groups who knowingly deal with energy, water and waste, there are no additional costs for electricity, heating, water, garbage collection. No more surprises at the end of your stay!
• The price full board include the stay, 3 delicious meals and a snack.
• We can keep our prices this low because we ask all groups to do a little effort with the dishes and final cleaning. If these tasks have to be done by us, this is charged.

Young people and youth work

• Our youth centres are recognized as youth centres within the Flemish community by the Youth Department and Tourism Flanders. The compulsory price category "youth work" refers to domestic and foreign youth movements.
• Groups from recognised youth work of a specific category also enjoy lower price  and are allowed for the holiday periods to book a year earlier.
• Special for groups of Scouts and Guides Association of Flanders there is still a separate rate.
• Schools, sports groups, and other (unacknowledged) youth groups pay the youth rate.
• Since our focus is on young people in a group, we use for adults (in case of family groups, businesses, non-profit organisations) the highest rate.

If in doubt, ask on the spot at the responsible or the responsible Hopper youth residence.

Eight youth centres, buildings and campgrounds for weekends and camps with numerous opportunities, cosy inside or adventurous outside.
